¶ Summary
Bolt together the prepared X and Y Axes, aligning the cable pass through hole.
¶ Prep
¶ Tools and Hardware Needed:
- 4mm Allen key or hex wrench
- (24 or more) M6x16mm button head bolt (socket head cap screws are also acceptable)
- (3 or more) Prepared X-Axis frame beams from build step 1
- (2) Prepared Y-Axis frame beams from build step 2
- Ratcheting strap (optional)
- Tape measure
¶ When complete, verify:
- Your frame is fully squared after assembly.
- Each X-Axis beam has 4 bolts on each side attaching it to the Y-Axis beams, for a total of 8 bolts on each X-Axis beam.
- (optional) A wire can be passed through the spare hole between the 4 bolts circled in Figure 3.2 and Figure 3.3.
¶ Build Steps:
- Place the prepared Y-Axis frame pieces parallel to each other with the holes facing up as shown in Figure 3.1. Please note the location of the Y-Axis frame beam which has an optional hole for wiring, circled in red.
- Place the prepared X-Axis frame pieces on top of the Y-Axis frame pieces so that the holes align as shown in Figure 3.2. If you drilled the optional holes to pass wiring ensure the holes in the X-Axis frame beams aligns with the corresponding holes in the Y-Axis frame beam, as circled in red.
- Screw M6x16mm bolts into the Y-Axis frame beams to lightly fasten the X-Axis beams to the Y-Axis beams as shown in Figures 3.3 and 3.4.
- Verify your frame is square. Use the oversized 6.5 mm holes in the X-Axis to align the beams as needed. If needed, increase the diameter of the holes in the X-Axis beams to allow the alignment.
Tips: Loosen the bolts, use a ratcheting strap to help get your frame into square, then tighten the bolts. You can verify if your frame is square by measuring the diagonals. If the diagonals have the same length, then you frame is squared.
- Tighten the bolts enough to hold the frame square as you handle it. You will likely need to disassemble the frame again so do not over tighten the bolts.
- Flip the frame right side up so the X-Axis frame beams are on the bottom.
